Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday said a strong and modern Home Guard force would serve as the foundation of a safe, prosperous and developed Bihar, while addressing the passing-out parade ceremony of newly inducted personnel at Gandhi Maidan.
The Chief Minister inspected the parade and took the salute before congratulating the newly trained Home Guards. He said the disciplined performance displayed during the ceremony reflected both the quality of training and the strengthening law and order situation in the state.
Home Guards Vital for Development
Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said security and development go hand in hand and that the Bihar Home Guard and police force would play an important role in achieving the goals of a developed India and a prosperous Bihar.
He said trained personnel would help create a secure environment necessary for investment, growth and public welfare. According to the Chief Minister, the contribution of Home Guard personnel during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections was instrumental in ensuring peaceful polling.
He noted that around 1.1 lakh Home Guards were deployed during the Lok Sabha elections, while approximately 44,000 personnel performed election duties during the Assembly polls.
Welfare Measures Highlighted
The Chief Minister said the state government had increased the daily allowance of Home Guard personnel from Rs 774 to Rs 1,121 with effect from September 3, 2025.
Recalling his tenure as Finance Minister, Choudhary said the decision reflected the government’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel and assured that further measures for their well-being would continue in the future.
Focus on Women’s Safety
Emphasising public safety, the Chief Minister said the protection of Bihar’s nearly 13 crore residents remained the government’s highest priority.
He asserted that there would be no place for crime and criminals in the state and that all security agencies were working together to strengthen the rule of law.
As part of efforts to improve women’s safety, he announced that female police personnel, known as “Police Didis”, would be deployed on 5,000 scooters and motorcycles around schools and colleges. The initiative aims to provide a secure environment for female students and enhance confidence among young women.
Training Comparable to Armed Forces
Praising the dedication of the recruits, Choudhary said the parade and demonstrations conducted in temperatures above 40 degrees showcased remarkable discipline and commitment.
He added that Bihar Home Guard personnel were now receiving training comparable to that provided to the Bihar Special Armed Police and paramilitary forces, which would benefit them throughout their careers.
The Chief Minister urged the newly inducted personnel to perform their duties with discipline, loyalty and a commitment to public service.
During the event, Director General-cum-Commandant General of Bihar Home Guard and Fire Services Shobha Ohatkar administered the oath of duty to the newly inducted Home Guards.
Male and female commandos of the Bihar Home Guard also demonstrated their operational skills before the gathering.
