Jehanabad / Patna : An 18-year-old student in Bihar’s Jehanabad district died by suicide on Tuesday night after reportedly feeling distressed over her performance in the intermediate (Class 12) board exams.

The girl, lived in Madari Chakra village under the Tehta police station area. According to her family, she had been deeply upset since the exam results were announced on March 25. Her twin sister had scored 390 out of 500 marks, while she had obtained 300.

Her father, Anuj Kumar, said: “Before the results, both my daughters were happy. But when the results came, She was devastated. She kept saying she had worked very hard but still got low marks.”

Family says she became withdrawn

Relatives described her as a bright student who shared a close bond with her sister. However, after the results, she became withdrawn and distanced herself from family members.

“She stopped talking to us. We tried to comfort her, but she would not listen,” her father said.

According to the family, She had been in distress for nearly a week. On Tuesday night, she had dinner with her family and went to her room, saying she wanted to sleep. When she did not emerge the next morning, her family tried knocking on her door. After receiving no response for over half an hour, they contacted the police.

Officers arrived at the house around 8 am and forced the door open, where they found she had died by hanging. Her body was sent for postmortem examination.
