Patna: The official car of Banshidhar Brajwasi, a member of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) representing the Tirhut Graduate Constituency, was struck by a truck near the Digha-Pehleja check post in Saran district on Saturday night, in what the politician has described as a deliberate attempt on his life.
Brajwasi was not in the vehicle at the time, having left for Delhi earlier to accompany his wife for medical treatment. The collision, which occurred as the car was returning to Muzaffarpur after dropping him at Patna Junction, involved the car’s airbag deploying and narrowly saved the driver and bodyguard, who sustained no serious injuries despite significant damage to the vehicle.
Sharing details on social media, Brajwasi questioned how a truck was allowed near the Digha bridge, where truck movement is generally restricted, suggesting the possibility of negligence or a coordinated attack.
The MLC contacted Saran’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Kumar Ashish, who confirmed that an investigation has been launched. Authorities are probing the truck driver’s identity, the legitimacy of the truck’s passage, and the motive behind the collision.
The incident has also raised broader concerns about the security of public representatives and traffic management on the bridge. Brajwasi warned that without timely action, similar incidents could recur. Police have assured that strict measures will be taken following the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
