Patna: The Bihar government has introduced fixed timelines for correcting land records, aiming to complete minor rectification cases within 15 working days as part of a crackdown on delays and administrative laxity in circle offices.
The move follows instructions from the Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue and Land Reforms Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, after repeated complaints of slow processing and arbitrary practices at the local level. The revenue department has now formally notified deadlines for applications received through the Parimarjan Plus portal, a digital platform used for land record corrections.
Under the revised framework, clerical and typographical errors in digitised land records — including mistakes in names, parentage, address, plot numbers, area and land revenue details — must be resolved within 15 working days. Other land record discrepancies will be addressed within 35 working days. Cases involving the online entry of previously omitted land records, as well as matters requiring physical land measurement, have been assigned a maximum processing time of 75 working days.
Officials said the deadlines would apply only to the period when applications are under official scrutiny, and the time taken by applicants to respond to returned or incomplete files will not be counted in the final calculation.
The department has directed all district magistrates to ensure that applications submitted on the Parimarjan Plus portal are disposed of strictly within the prescribed time limits. Officers and staff found delaying cases without valid reasons will face disciplinary action, with district administrations required to report such action to the department.
Sinha said a recent review had revealed widespread negligence in handling online land correction applications, prompting the government to formalise timelines to ensure time-bound services for landholders. He added that the measures were intended to reduce harassment of citizens and restore trust in land administration.
