Aurangabad: After the Bihar Assembly elections ended, state investigation agencies have started taking strong action against corruption once again. On Sunday, the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) carried out a major raid targeting government officials accused of misusing their positions for personal gain. The agency searched multiple properties linked to Aurangabad Excise Superintendent Anil Kumar Azad, who is accused of gathering illegal assets worth Rs 1.58 crore during the course of his service.
According to officials, the investigation into Anil Kumar Azad had been going on for several months. The SVU first collected information that Azad had accumulated property and wealth that could not be justified by his known sources of income. After confirming the details, a legal case was filed against him under several sections, including disproportionate assets. The SVU later received a search warrant from the court to take further action.
On Sunday, multiple SVU teams searched Azad’s offices and homes in three districts — Aurangabad, Jehanabad, and Patna — at the same time. Several documents related to land investment, bank passbooks and other financial papers were recovered during the search. Investigators say the seized papers will be examined in detail to understand how the alleged illegal assets were acquired and whether they are linked to undisclosed income or corruption.
The raids are still in progress, and more information may come as officers continue to search the identified locations. Sources within the agency say that they expect to recover more evidence related to property, cash flow and investments. The SVU is treating the case seriously as part of its wider effort to take action against government employees who misuse their posts for personal profit. Once the investigation is complete, a full report is expected, and further legal action may follow if the allegations are proven.
