Katihar: The District Congress Committee held an important meeting on Sunday at the party office in Rajendra Ashram, Katihar, under the chairmanship of District Congress President Sunil Kumar Yadav. Katihar MP Tariq Anwar and Congress National Secretary Shahnawaz Alam attended as chief guests.
The meeting focused on formulating strategies to secure the victory of Grand Alliance candidates across all seven assembly constituencies in Katihar district. Following the meeting, MP Tariq Anwar addressed the media, outlining the Congress party’s stance and the alliance’s broader election strategy.
Congress Reiterates Opposition to Waqf Bill
Responding to questions from reporters, MP Tariq Anwar said that the Congress party has consistently opposed the Waqf Bill. He supported RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s action of tearing the bill in protest. “Even West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced her opposition. It is natural for people to protest against such measures where BJP governments are in power,” Anwar said.
Focus on Unity Within Grand Alliance
Highlighting the importance of coordination among alliance partners, Anwar said the meeting was convened with the upcoming assembly elections in mind. “These elections are crucial for Bihar. Our aim is to form a Grand Alliance government, and for that, every constituent party must work in complete harmony,” he stated.
When asked about dissatisfaction within the alliance following ticket cancellations, the MP assured that all issues had been resolved. “Everything is fine now. The Grand Alliance is united and contesting the elections together,” he said.
Alliance Leaders Present
Among those present were VIP candidate Saurabh Agarwal from Katihar Sadar constituency and Congress candidate Tauqeer Alam from Barari assembly seat. MP Tariq Anwar urged Agarwal’s family members and supporters to actively campaign to ensure his victory.
The meeting concluded with calls for grassroots coordination and joint efforts by Congress workers to strengthen the Grand Alliance’s position in Katihar ahead of the assembly elections.
