Patna: Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections from the Mahua constituency, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JD) announced on Monday.
Alongside his own candidacy, Tej Pratap unveiled the party’s first list of 21 candidates, which includes two women. The list highlights a mix of new and young faces, signalling the party’s attempt to broaden its appeal ahead of the 2025 polls.
Currently the MLA from Hasanpur, Tej Pratap will challenge Mukesh Kumar of the RJD in Mahua. Kumar, who won the seat in the 2020 elections by defeating JDU’s Aashma Parveen by 13,687 votes, is the incumbent.
The announcement marks a strategic shift for Tej Pratap, who is seeking to expand his political footprint beyond his existing constituency. Party sources said the first list reflects the JD’s efforts to balance experience with fresh representation, and to ensure wider participation in Bihar’s diverse political landscape.
