Patna: A fresh rift in the family of RJD chief Lalu Prasad has triggered political turmoil in Bihar, after his daughter Rohini Acharya levelled serious allegations against her relatives. The controversy has quickly moved beyond party lines, drawing sharp responses from leaders of the ruling Janata Dal (United).
On Monday, JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, former deputy chief minister and Lalu’s son, was causing “mental agony” to his ailing father. “Rohini Acharya is not just Lalu’s daughter, she is the daughter of the entire Bihar,” he said, adding that the public nature of the family dispute had become “a matter of concern”.
Kumar recalled that Rohini donated a kidney to her father in 2022, and questioned whether Lalu Prasad had now been “politically confined”. “If such a daughter is anguished, it cannot be taken lightly,” he said. He also referred to a recent video featuring Rohini, in which people were seen touching her feet, suggesting discontent within the family’s circles. “Lalu and Rabri appear helpless today,” he added.
Turning his criticism towards Tejashwi, the JD(U) leader alleged that individuals facing serious criminal charges were now part of his inner circle. “This is why the public has taught RJD a lesson,” he said, referring to the party’s recent electoral setbacks.
JD(U) MLA from Kesaria, Shalini Mishra, also weighed in, saying Tejashwi should “start the Mai-Behin Samman Yojana from his home” before speaking of leadership in Bihar. “If he cannot manage his own family, how can he talk about governance?” she said. Mishra described the feud as “unfortunate”, adding that she had not expected such discord within the Lalu Yadav household.
