Patna: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has sharply criticised the CM Nitish Kumar government following the brutal killing of five members of a tribal family in Bihar’s Purnia district. The victims, accused of witchcraft, were allegedly burnt alive by villagers who then stuffed their bodies into sacks and dumped them in a pond.
Tejashwi claimed that anarchy is at its peak in Bihar due to what he described as the “DK tax”. In a social media post, he wrote, “Five people of the same family were burnt alive in Purnia. Due to DK tax, anarchy is at its peak in Bihar, the DGP and CS are helpless, and law and order is in shambles. Day before yesterday, three people died in a massacre in Siwan, recently three were killed in Buxar, and three in Bhojpur. Criminals are alert, the Chief Minister is unconscious, the corrupt Bhunja Party is happy, and the police are exhausted. DK is having fun because DK is the real boss.”
The massacre has drawn nationwide outrage. Reports suggest that around 250 people attacked the family over suspicions of witchcraft, and the entire village stayed silent about the crime. Police have detained two people so far and several others are being questioned.
Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram also condemned the killings, calling them an inhuman act. He demanded immediate strict action against all those involved and said the incident has created an atmosphere of fear in the entire village.
