Patna: Several prominent leaders are set to file their nomination papers today (Wednesday) for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, marking a high-profile day in the state’s poll process.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, younger son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, will file his nomination from Raghopur on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) symbol. His elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, will file his nomination from Mahua, contesting as the candidate of his newly formed Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). Interestingly, the nomination process for both brothers will take place in Hajipur.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha will also file his nomination from Lakhisarai, while Divya Gautam, cousin of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, will enter the fray from a CPI-ML ticket.
Tej Pratap Yadav Contests on His Own Party Symbol
After breaking away from the Lalu Prasad Yadav family, Tej Pratap Yadav formed the Janshakti Janata Dal and is contesting under its symbol from Mahua, a seat he previously represented. He will face Mukesh Roshan of the RJD in what is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in the Vaishali district.
Delhi CM to Attend BJP Minister’s Nomination in Bihar
In a show of inter-state political outreach, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will arrive in Bihar on Wednesday to attend the nomination of BJP leader and Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar. After the filing, she is scheduled to address a public meeting at Kisan College in Soharsarai, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Minister Shravan Kumar.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Digha candidate Dr. Sanjeev Chaurasia will also file his nomination papers today. The event will be attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, and leaders of other NDA constituent parties.
‘Baahubali’ Anant Singh Files Nomination in Signature Style
Independent strongman and former MLA Anant Singh, popularly known as “Baahubali,” filed his nomination from Mokama on October 14. Staying true to his flamboyant style, Singh arrived in a white Thar SUV, which reportedly had to be pushed to start before reaching the nomination venue.
Before filing his papers, Singh hosted around 25,000 supporters, serving them an extravagant feast that included 2.5 lakh gulab jamuns.
According to his election affidavit, Anant Singh declared ownership of gold worth ₹15 lakh, three cars including a Land Cruiser, and houses in Patna, Delhi, and Bhagalpur, along with ₹85 lakh in cash across bank accounts. The affidavit also mentions 28 criminal cases, including those related to theft and murder, though he is currently out on bail in all of them.
RJD’s Rekha Devi Misses Nomination Deadline
In another development, RJD MLA Rekha Devi, the sitting representative from Masaurhi, failed to file her nomination on Tuesday after reaching the subdivision office past the deadline. Masaurhi SDM Abhishek Kumar informed her that the nomination window had closed. Rekha Devi later said she would complete the process on Wednesday.
