Patna: Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, has returned to India after spending a short vacation abroad, according to sources close to his party. He arrived back in the country late on Sunday night, and discussions have already begun about his next political moves. RJD leaders say Tejashwi is expected to become active again very soon and may begin touring different parts of Bihar after the festival of Makar Sankranti. At the same time, there is talk of organisational changes within the party.
His return has coincided with widespread discussion on social media after a video of him went viral. In the clip, Tejashwi is seen enjoying a boat ride, wearing expensive Prada sunglasses and a pink Quiksilver T-shirt along with shorts. The scenic sea and clear sky in the background led many to believe the video was shot in the Maldives. Supporters described it as a personal break, while critics questioned the timing of the trip.
The video quickly became a political talking point, drawing criticism from leaders of the ruling alliance. Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai launched a strong attack on Tejashwi, claiming that he has no political future left in Bihar. Rai alleged that Tejashwi went abroad out of fear and frustration after what he described as the declining influence of the RJD in state politics.
Rai also accused the RJD of lacking a development-focused mindset, blaming the party for opposing infrastructure and governance reforms in the past. He said that the people of Bihar had clearly supported the NDA because of its emphasis on development, and therefore there was no space left for Tejashwi Yadav in the state’s political landscape. Tejashwi and the RJD have not yet responded to these remarks, but his expected political comeback suggests that the battle of words in Bihar is likely to intensify in the coming weeks.
