Patna: The Bihar postal department is preparing to open five new “Gen-Z” post offices across the state by March, with the aim of reconnecting young people with public services in a modern and meaningful way. These post offices will come up in Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Gaya, and are being designed especially for students and young adults. Officials say the initiative is meant to combine education, technology and financial awareness under one roof, making post offices more relevant to the younger generation.
According to the plan, two Gen-Z post offices will be opened in Bhagalpur, two in Muzaffarpur and one in Gaya. These locations have been selected to cover different regions of Bihar. The main idea is to create a calm and positive environment where young people can read, study and prepare for competitive examinations. The postal department believes that by offering such facilities, more students will begin to see post offices as useful public spaces rather than places meant only for letters and parcels.
Postal director Pawan Kumar said special focus will be given to the overall development of young people. The interiors of these post offices will be colourful and modern, with comfortable chairs and reading areas. Newspapers, magazines and important books will be available, along with free Wi-Fi so that students can access online study material. Small but thoughtful additions such as coffee makers are also planned, to make the atmosphere friendly and relaxed for regular visitors.
Some Gen-Z post offices are already functioning at IIT Patna and Bhagalpur Engineering College. The response from students there has encouraged the postal department to expand the idea further. This year, another engineering college is expected to get a similar post office. In the future, officials plan to set up Gen-Z post offices in more major educational institutions across the state, so that a larger number of students can benefit from them.
Along with study facilities, the postal department is also introducing small savings schemes specially designed for young people. These schemes will allow students to save their pocket money or income earned from part-time work. New savings accounts and insurance plans are also being developed, keeping higher education and long-term security in mind. Officials believe that these steps will help young people build good financial habits early and move towards a more secure future.
