Bhagalpur (Naugachhia): Three people, including two children, went missing after drowning in the Ganga River at Tintanga Diara Ghat under Rangra police station limits in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Friday.
The missing have been identified as Sakshi Kumari (15), Gaurav Kumar (10), and their cousin Moni Kumari (18), all residents of Bhatgama village under Chausa police station area in Madhepura district.
According to initial reports, the family had come to the ghat for a religious ritual (mundan ceremony) of the children. Several family members were present at the riverbank when the incident occurred.
Police said that during bathing, Gaurav Kumar reportedly slipped and drifted into deep water. In an attempt to rescue him, his sister Sakshi Kumari jumped into the river but also began to drown. Their cousin Moni Kumari then rushed in to save them, but she too was swept away by the strong current.
On receiving information, teams from Rangra police station and Dial 112 reached the spot and initiated rescue efforts. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been alerted, and search operations are underway. Local residents are also assisting in the search for the missing trio.
The incident has led to chaos at the ghat, with distraught family members breaking down in grief. A pall of gloom has descended over the area, from the village to the riverbank, as efforts continue to trace the missing individuals.
Officials said further details are awaited as the search operation continues.
