Patna: The scorching heat that had gripped Bihar in recent days continued to ease on Saturday, with no heatwave reported anywhere in the state for the second consecutive day, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre.
Only three locations — Gayaji (Gaya), Dehri and Aurangabad — recorded maximum temperatures above 40°C, a significant drop from 14 locations on Thursday and six on Friday. Gayaji was the hottest spot in the state at 41.9°C, followed by Dehri at 41°C and Aurangabad at 40.7°C.
Elsewhere, temperatures remained more moderate. In Patna, the maximum temperature hovered around 38°C, while most districts in North Bihar, including Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, and Darbhanga, reported highs between 34–36°C. Minimum temperatures across regions largely ranged between 22–26°C.
According to the Met Centre’s latest forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–60 km/h are likely across various parts of Bihar over the next five days. On Sunday, a heavy rain warning has been issued for Supaul, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Katihar, and Purnia in the northeastern region of the state.
From May 19 onward, thunderstorms are expected to continue in southern and southeastern districts, gradually shifting to northern and western parts later in the week. Wind speeds may reach up to 60 km/h in some areas, prompting authorities to advise caution, especially in low-lying and rural regions.
The Met Office has also predicted a welcome dip in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius from Sunday onwards, providing further relief from the hot and humid spell that had prevailed earlier in the week.
No heatwave warnings have been issued for the next two days, and officials have categorised the forecast under the ‘green’ zone, indicating normal conditions for the public. However, vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor heat.
