Patna: The Transport Department has decided to take strict action against increasing complaints of auto and e-rickshaw drivers charging fares above prescribed limits in Patna.
A special inspection drive will be conducted from Tuesday across key routes in the city under the supervision of District Transport Officer (DTO) Upendra Kumar Pal.
Action Against Overcharging
During the drive, drivers found collecting fares beyond the approved rates will face penalties of up to Rs 5,000, according to officials.
The department said repeated complaints had been received from multiple routes regarding excessive fare demands and disputes between passengers and drivers.
Joint Enforcement Teams
Traffic police have also been directed to act on complaints without delay. Joint teams comprising Transport Department officials and police personnel will be deployed at major transit points, including Patna Junction, Gandhi Maidan, Bailey Road, Boring Road, Kankarbagh and Danapur.
Officials will carry out surprise checks during the drive and may interact with passengers to verify fare practices on the ground.
Public Transport Monitoring
The Transport Department stated that the objective of the drive is to ensure transparency in fare collection and provide relief to commuters facing irregular pricing.
Authorities have made it clear that violations of prescribed fare rules will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict enforcement action will continue in the coming days.
