Patna: A political discussion has emerged in Bihar after the colour of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s newly allotted government bungalow at 39 Harding Road was changed multiple times by the state administration.
The bungalow, originally painted in saffron, has now been repainted first in white and subsequently in green, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Objection Over Initial Colour Scheme
Sources said that before vacating 10 Circular Road, Rabri Devi had expressed reservations about shifting to the new government residence at 39 Harding Road due to its saffron-coloured walls and gate.
She had reportedly communicated that she was unwilling to move into the premises in its original form, leading to delays in her shifting.
Administrative Repainting Process
Following the concerns raised, the Urban Development and Housing Department initiated repainting work at the bungalow.
Officials said the saffron colour was first replaced with white. A further coat of green paint is now being applied as part of the ongoing modifications to the premises.
Political Reactions and Symbolism Debate
The shift in colour scheme has triggered political discussion, with the green shade being informally linked by political observers to the symbolism associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Members of the Lalu Prasad Yadav family had earlier raised objections over the initial saffron colour scheme, according to party-linked sources, calling it unsuitable for the residence.
Administrative Silence Continues
The Urban Development Department has not issued a detailed public statement on the sequence of colour changes or the reasons behind the specific repainting decisions.
The matter continues to be discussed in Bihar’s political circles, with the bungalow at the centre of a broader symbolic debate over administrative decisions and political perception.
