Saharsa: A two-and-a-half-year-old girl is in a critical condition following an alleged sexual assault in Saharsa, authorities have confirmed. Doctors reported severe injuries to the child’s private parts and extensive bruising, prompting her transfer to Bhagalpur Medical College Hospital for specialised care.
According to her family, the girl was playing near her home around noon when a 26-year-old man from a neighbouring hamlet allegedly covered her with a towel and carried her away. She was later found unconscious approximately one kilometre away in Bansbari, with her clothes in disarray.
The child’s father, who works as a labourer in Punjab and has four daughters, recounted the incident: “At around 12 noon, I was asleep. The little girl was playing near the door when Rajkumar Sharma picked her up, covered her with a towel, and carried her away so that no one would suspect anything.” Villagers discovered her and rushed her to the hospital.
Police have arrested the accused, who works as a painter in the village. He has denied the allegations, claiming he is innocent. Local residents have expressed outrage, demanding strict action.
Saharsa Cyber DSP Ajit Kumar said a team was dispatched immediately after police received reports of the incident. “A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was found undergoing treatment with injuries to her private parts. Evidence is being collected and one accused has been detained for questioning,” he said.
Authorities have vowed that if found guilty, the accused will face the strictest possible action.
