Patna: Patna’s metro network is set to expand, with the proposed route from New Patliputra Bus Terminal to Malahi Pakadi via Zero Mile entering its final stages. Officials conducted a thorough inspection of fire safety systems at Malahi Pakadi station on Wednesday, ahead of operational clearance.
The review was led by the Director of Bihar Fire Services and his team, with representatives from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRCL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also present. Inspectors assessed fire detection and protection systems, verifying the technical specifications of electrical equipment to ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards.
Smoke detection systems, emergency egress routes, and evacuation plans were closely examined to ensure passenger safety in case of emergencies. Key areas of the station, including entrance and exit gates, the pump room, concourse, and platform levels, were inspected for functionality and safety compliance.
This final stage of verification is required before the upcoming Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection. Once a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is issued by the Fire Department, the station will be cleared for operations.
Currently, Patna Metro runs between three stations, from New ISBT to Bhootnath Road. With the opening of the Malahi Pakadi section, the network will expand to five stations, including Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi. Officials say the extension is expected to provide greater convenience to commuters and become a vital component of the city’s transport infrastructure.
