Patna: Two separate chain-snatching incidents were reported in Patna on Wednesday morning, with gold chains reportedly worth a combined Rs 12 lakh stolen from residents in Kurji and Gardanibagh.
In both cases, the suspects allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and fled after snatching the chains. Police are examining CCTV footage from the areas to identify the suspects and trace their movements.
Rs 7 Lakh Chain Snatched In Kurji
The first incident took place near Kurji Mor at around 7.50 am.
The victim, identified as Pankaj Kumar, reportedly left his home at around 7.40 am to visit a councillor’s office. When he reached Kurji Mor, two people on a motorcycle allegedly approached him.
According to the complaint, a man was riding the motorcycle while a woman was seated behind him. The woman allegedly snatched the gold chain from Kumar’s neck.
The suspects then fled from the spot. Kumar reportedly raised an alarm and tried to stop them, but they managed to escape.
The stolen chain was reportedly worth around Rs 7 lakh.
Rs 5 Lakh Chain Snatched In Gardanibagh
A second incident was reported from Gardanibagh on the same morning.
The victim, Rakesh Singh, is a contractor. According to his account, he was returning from a morning walk and had stopped near Sadhanapuri Park to buy vegetables.
At that point, two people allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and snatched his gold chain. Singh said a woman seated behind the motorcycle rider allegedly carried out the snatching.
Singh and people nearby reportedly tried to catch the suspects, but they escaped.
The chain was reportedly valued at around Rs 5 lakh.
Police Check CCTV Footage
After receiving information about the incidents, Patna Police reached both locations and spoke to the complainants.
Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby shops, roads and other locations to identify the suspects and establish the route taken by the motorcycle.
The footage from the areas where the suspects allegedly fled is also being examined as part of the investigation.
Police said action is being taken on the basis of the complaints, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The investigation into both incidents is continuing.
