Patna: In a significant boost to Bihar’s industrial landscape, UltraTech Cement Ltd., a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has expressed interest in setting up a large-scale cement grinding unit in the newly developed industrial area of Mauja Karjhaunsa under Katoria block in Banka district.
The proposed plant, with a production capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum, will be developed over approximately 200 acres of land. It is expected to attract an investment of Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 crore and generate over 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, offering a major impetus to local economic development.
The announcement came following a meeting between Bihar Industries Minister Nitish Mishra and a senior delegation from UltraTech Cement, comprising Executive President Mukesh Agarwal, Joint President (F&C) Gagan Agarwal, and Ravi Dusad, Head of Mines, Land Acquisition and Corporate Affairs. The company handed over an Expression of Interest letter for the project during the meeting.
Top officials from the Industries Department, including Additional Chief Secretary Mihir Kumar Singh, Director (Technical Development) Shekhar Anand, and Director of Handloom and Silk Directorate Nikhil Dhanraj Nippanikar, were also present.
Land allotment for the proposed unit will be carried out by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) following completion of procedural formalities.
“The Department is committed to fostering industrial growth across all districts of Bihar. This proposed investment will not only strengthen the industrial fabric of Banka but will also contribute significantly to positioning Bihar as the growth engine of Eastern India,” said Industries Minister Nitish Mishra.
The move marks a strategic milestone in Bihar’s push to attract large industrial investments, particularly in resource-rich but underdeveloped regions like Banka.
