Patna: The Bihar government has taken a major step towards revamping Patna’s hospitality sector, with the State Cabinet on Tuesday approving the issuance of a Letter of Award (LOA) to Kumar Infratrade Enterprises Private Limited for the development of a five-star hotel in the city.
The hotel, to be built under a public-private partnership model, will be guided by a concession agreement sanctioned by the Infrastructure Development Authority. Officials said the move signals a strategic shift in the state’s approach to tourism, with a renewed focus on attracting both domestic and international travellers by enhancing accommodation standards in the capital.
The upcoming property is one of three five-star hotels planned for Patna, aimed at reshaping its image and aligning it with other major urban centres. The tendering process for the remaining two hotels is currently underway.
The site earmarked for development was once home to the iconic Hotel Pataliputra Ashok, a legacy property that closed its doors in 2022. By repurposing this centrally located land, the government hopes to blend heritage with modernisation and catalyse a broader transformation of the city’s tourism infrastructure.
Officials expect the project to stimulate local economic activity, create employment opportunities, and contribute to state revenues through increased tourist footfall.
