Bhagalpur: A man has been arrested in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, following allegations that he raped his 11-year-old niece on Tuesday morning. Local residents apprehended the suspect after the girl’s screams alerted them to the incident.
The alleged assault occurred around 6 am in a village within the Nathnagar police station area. Villagers reportedly rushed to the scene after hearing the girl’s distressed cries and detained the accused. City DSP 2 Rakesh Kumar and Nathnagar police arrived shortly after receiving information about the incident and took the man into custody.
The victim’s father has filed a formal complaint at the Nathnagar police station. According to the complaint, the girl had gone to a village garden to pick flowers, where the accused was also present. He is alleged to have then assaulted her. Despite the girl’s struggles and pleas, the crime was reportedly committed.
The young victim recounted her desperate attempts to resist the attack, stating she “struggled a lot to save herself from that demon” and “even folded hands, but he did not listen.”
Villagers have also claimed that the accused had previously committed a similar act against another girl in the village two and a half years ago, but no legal action was taken at that time.
Investigation Underway
Following the arrest, Inspector Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed senior officers. DSP 2 Rakesh Kumar, accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, visited the crime scene to collect samples as part of the ongoing investigation.
Nathnagar Inspector Rajiv Ranjan Singh confirmed the arrest of the accused. The girl has been transferred to the women’s police station for a medical examination and to record her statement. Inspector Singh stated that the allegations of rape would be confirmed once the full report of the incident is available.
