Patna: In a move aimed at empowering socio-economically disadvantaged girls, the Bihar government has announced free JEE and NEET coaching for students of all 232 Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential Schools across the state. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 23,200 students from classes IX to XII.
To facilitate this, the state’s Education Department has sanctioned Rs 3.48 crore for the installation of smart TVs in each school hostel. These will be used to deliver both foundational and advanced coaching for the highly competitive engineering and medical entrance examinations.
A letter approving the fund allocation has been issued to the Accountant General (Accounts and Entitlements), bearing the signature of Amit Kumar Pushpak, Deputy Secretary of the Education Department. The funding falls under the Infrastructure Development Scheme for secondary and higher secondary schools, with Rs 1.5 lakh earmarked per hostel for the procurement of smart TVs.
The Education Department believes the initiative will help bridge the educational divide for girls from marginalised communities and provide them with access to modern, technology-driven learning tools. “This is not only a step towards academic excellence but also a means of expanding opportunities for underprivileged girl students,” said an official.
Kasturba Gandhi Girls Residential Schools, run by the state government, provide residential education to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. This scheme marks a significant stride in aligning their educational resources with the demands of national-level competitive exams.
