Darbhanga: Pushpam Priya Chaudhary, national president of The Plurals Party and a vocal advocate for political transformation in Bihar, has declared she will not marry in this lifetime, dedicating herself entirely to the state’s development.
Speaking to reporters in Darbhanga, Chaudhary described her entry into politics as the “biggest and toughest decision” of her life, one that demanded significant personal and professional sacrifice. “I will not marry in this birth,” she said. “I will not build my own family so that I can work for the future of Bihar’s children. Maybe in another life I will marry, but in this one, every step I take will be for Bihar.”
Chaudhary, daughter of former JDU MLC Vinod Chaudhary, has long positioned herself as an outsider challenging Bihar’s entrenched political class. She said she was aware that marriage would shift the weight of family responsibilities disproportionately onto her, limiting her ability to serve with full honesty and dedication.
“Like every young girl, I once thought about marriage,” she admitted. “But politics is not a time pass—it is a war. And to win, sacrifice is essential.”
In a veiled swipe at dynastic politics, she remarked, “If my father had a name like Lalu Prasad Yadav, perhaps my decisions would have been different. But I have chosen my own path—and I am committed to walk it with integrity.”
Chaudhary also criticised the current political climate in Bihar, claiming voters are influenced more by identity and appearances than ideology. “People vote by looking at the face, not the ideas. The day we win even a single seat, we will remove our mask,” she said, alluding to her party’s symbolism and its aim to shift focus from personality-driven to issue-based politics. “The face has been seen enough—now it is time to change the thinking.”
