Patna: Several prominent long-distance trains passing through eastern India will operate under new numbers from mid-April, after Indian Railways announced an administrative overhaul aimed at standardising its network.
The Upasana, Kumbh, Himgiri and Vibhuti Express trains will be renumbered and reclassified from “superfast” to “mail express”, officials said, in a move that does not affect their routes, schedules or stoppages.
The changes began on April 15, with the Upasana Express – previously numbered 12327/12328 – now running as 13035/13036. The Kumbh Express, which operated under 12369/12370, has been reassigned the numbers 13037/13038 with immediate effect.
Similarly, the Himgiri Express has been renumbered from 12331/12332 to 13041/13042, while the Vibhuti Express will now run as 13047/13048 instead of 12333/12334.
Railway officials said the decision was taken to “streamline operations and bring uniformity” across services, particularly within the Asansol division, where the trains frequently pass.
Despite the downgrade in classification, authorities stressed that the change is purely administrative and will not impact passenger amenities or journey times.
Passengers have been advised to check updated train numbers carefully while booking tickets or travelling, to avoid confusion during the transition period.
