Patna: A controversy has emerged following the declaration of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025 results, after two candidates named Akanksha Singh claimed to have secured rank 301.
Throughout Friday, reports circulated that Akanksha Singh from Ara — granddaughter of erstwhile banned caste- based outfit Ranvir Sena leader late Brahmeshwar Singh, also known as Mukhiya — had secured the rank. She shared a written examination admit card bearing roll number 0856794 with media outlets and gave several interviews after the results were announced.
However, later in the day another candidate with the same name, Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, took to social media claiming that she was the actual rank holder. She said she had secured rank 301 and shared an interview admit card carrying the same roll number. She is also a doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna.
The dispute intensified after both candidates claimed selection under roll number 0856794, making it difficult to immediately verify whose documents were genuine.
The final UPSC result list confirms that roll number 0856794 secured rank 301. While the Ara-based Akanksha Singh shared an admit card from the written examination stage, the Ghazipur-based candidate released her interview call letter.
Both admit cards contain QR codes intended for verification. According to reports, scanning the QR code on the interview admit card shared by the Ghazipur candidate confirms the roll number 0856794 along with application number 12507292880 and exam centre number 001.
By contrast, scanning the QR code on the prelims admit card shared by the Ara candidate reportedly shows a different roll number — 0856569 — despite the printed roll number appearing as 0856794. The exam centre listed on that admit card is 115.
The Ghazipur candidate released a video urging people to verify the details by scanning the QR code on her admit card. In the video, she said she had cleared the examination and expressed happiness over the result.
While the QR code verification appears to support the claim made by the Ghazipur candidate, the Ara-based Akanksha Singh has already given extensive media interviews and referenced her grandfather Brahmeshwar Singh while speaking about her alleged success.
Observers say the controversy can only be conclusively resolved by the UPSC, which would need to confirm the selected candidate’s details, including the roll number, application number and personal information of the candidate.
The UPSC declared the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2025 on March 6. A total of 958 candidates were recommended for appointment to various services of the Government of India, including 317 from the general category, 104 from the economically weaker sections (EWS), 306 from other backward classes (OBC), 158 from scheduled castes (SC) and 71 from scheduled tribes (ST).
