Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), under Patna University, marked International Women’s Day with its annual programme Ojaswini 2026, celebrating gender inclusivity through cultural performances, discussions and the presentation of the SAHAS awards.
The event was organised in collaboration with the WE–PWC Gender Cell and brought together social activists, artists and students to reflect on themes of equality, dignity and empowerment.
The programme began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting followed by the release of colourful balloons, symbolising the institution’s commitment to inclusive values. The celebration opened with a prayer dance and a choir performance dedicated to the strength and resilience of women.

A theatrical act titled Savitribai: Shiksha Ki Jyoti highlighted the life and work of social reformer Savitribai Phule, portraying her pioneering efforts to promote girls’ education and challenge entrenched social inequalities. The performance emphasised the transformative role of education in creating a more equitable society.
As part of the celebrations, the Patna Women’s College Alumnae Association presented the Annual SAHAS Awards to individuals recognised for their commitment to social welfare. This year’s awardees included Sister Jyoti SMMI, a social activist associated with the Society for Integrated Development through Empowerment (SIDE) in Saran district; Laxmi Prasad Yadav, a folk singer linked to the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in Begusarai; and Anjali Tiwari, a social activist associated with the Dostana Safar organisation.

During the felicitation ceremony, Sister Jyoti shared her experiences working at the grassroots level with marginalised communities. Yadav spoke about the role of folk music in raising social awareness, while Tiwari reflected on her personal journey as a transwoman and her work advocating for gender inclusion.
The event also featured an Ethnic Day celebration in which students represented the diverse cultural traditions of different regions of India through traditional attire.
The programme was moderated by Nikita Anand, vice-premier of the student council, and Harshita, joint general secretary for 2025–26, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Khushi Xess, joint sports secretary.
