Patna: Preparations for the 2027 population census have gathered pace in Bihar, with authorities beginning the groundwork for the first phase of the nationwide exercise. Following directions from the state government, districts have started organising training programmes for officials and staff who will conduct house listing and door-to-door surveys.
The training sessions will take place from March 9 to March 17 and will last three days for each batch. The initiative aims to ensure that the survey process is conducted in a systematic and accurate manner, particularly as the census is expected to rely heavily on digital data collection methods.
According to District Statistical Officer Awadhesh Kumar, officials from district, sub-divisional and block levels will participate in the programme. Clerical staff and other personnel associated with the survey will also receive training to familiarise themselves with the procedures and digital tools required for the exercise.
In the first phase of the census, officials will focus on house listing and collecting basic family information. Government employees will visit households to gather details such as the number of family members, housing conditions and the socio-economic status of residents. The training will also teach surveyors how to record data digitally using mobile phones or tablets to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Preparations have already begun in Motihari, where the district administration is compiling a list of survey workers at the block and panchayat levels. Once the training is completed, these personnel will be assigned survey duties across both urban and rural areas.
Officials say census data plays a crucial role in governance, as it helps shape development policies and determine the allocation of resources. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with survey teams and provide accurate information to ensure the success of the nationwide exercise.
