Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inspected several under-construction development projects in Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district, directing officials to accelerate work and ensure timely completion. The visit included inspections of a railway overbridge, a school building and the under-construction bridge over the Ganga River.
Nitish Kumar first visited the site of a two-lane railway overbridge near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College, where officials informed him that construction is likely to be completed within the month. The bridge will connect National Highway 30 and State Highway 106 Bihar, linking the old Patna–Bakhtiyarpur road with the new four-lane highway. Once operational, the overbridge is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for commuters.
The chief minister said the project would also strengthen connectivity to the engineering college and Patliputra University, making travel easier for students and teachers. Improved road access, he said, would benefit residents on both sides of the railway line and help streamline local traffic movement.
Later, he reviewed construction work on the new building of Ganesh Higher Secondary School Bakhtiyarpur, a five-storey structure with 45 classrooms. He directed officials to complete the building quickly so that students can use the improved facilities. During the visit, the chief minister also inspected the school’s old building and recalled that he had studied there in his childhood. He further asked officials to speed up the development of a park near the statue site of freedom fighter Dumar Singh freedom fighter located close to the campus.

The chief minister also inspected the progress of the Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur Ganga Bridge Project, a four-lane bridge being constructed over the Ganga along with its approach roads. Travelling from Karjan in Athmalgola block through Kalyanpur to the riverbank, he reviewed the status of the project and sought updates from officials.
According to Pankaj Kumar Pal, secretary of the road construction department, work on the bridge and approach road is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Nitish Kumar directed officials to further accelerate construction, saying the bridge would significantly improve connectivity between north and south Bihar.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to reduce traffic pressure on Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu. It will also provide an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur and Begusarai, while reducing travel time to major educational institutions, healthcare facilities, religious sites and tourist destinations.
Officials said the Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan)–Tajpur four-lane bridge and approach road project begins near Karjan in Patna district from National Highway 31 India and connects to National Highway 28 India at Tajpur in Samastipur district. The project has a total length of 51.26 kilometres, including a 5.51km bridge over the Ganga and 45.75km of approach roads.
