Raxaul/Patna: An Uzbek national was arrested at the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Raxaul after she was allegedly found carrying a forged Indian Aadhaar card and staying in the country without a valid visa, officials said.
The woman was intercepted by personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during a routine security check near the Maitri Bridge on the evening of July 16. Investigators believe she was attempting to cross into Nepal when she was stopped.
The case has triggered a joint investigation by Bihar Police and central security agencies, which are examining possible links to a network involved in creating forged identity documents.
Arrest During Routine Border Check
According to officials, SSB personnel became suspicious of the woman’s movements during routine checks at the international border crossing.
During questioning, she identified herself as Bozorova Shakarjon, a citizen of Uzbekistan.
Officials said she was carrying a valid Uzbek passport, which remains valid until October 2029, but did not possess a valid visa permitting her stay in India.
Allegedly Assumed A New Identity In Mumbai
Preliminary investigations suggest the woman had been living in Mumbai for nearly a year with an Indian acquaintance.
Police allege that during her stay she changed her identity, obtained forged documents and secured an Indian Aadhaar card using those documents.
Investigators are now trying to establish how the Aadhaar card was obtained and whether others assisted her in remaining in India illegally.
Handed Over To Police
Following initial questioning, the SSB handed the woman over to Haraiya Police Station for further legal action.
Station House Officer Kishan Kumar Paswan said the woman was found without a valid visa and that a forged Indian Aadhaar card had been recovered from her possession.
He said police have registered the case under relevant provisions of the Passport Act, visa regulations and laws governing foreign nationals in India.
Probe Into Forged Document Network
Investigating agencies are now examining who helped the woman obtain the alleged forged Aadhaar card, who facilitated her stay in India and what her intended purpose was in travelling to Nepal.
Authorities are also investigating whether an organised network was involved in preparing forged identity documents.
National Security Angle Under Investigation
Security agencies are treating the case as a matter with potential national security implications because it involves alleged forged Indian identity documents and an attempted cross-border movement.
Officials said the investigation will examine the woman’s contacts, activities in India and any possible accomplices before drawing conclusions. No further details have been released, and the inquiry remains ongoing.
