Vaibhav Suryavanshi Did Not Fail Class 10, Says School Principal – Young Cricketer Did Not Appear for Exam This Year

Samastipur/Patna: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the teenage cricket sensation from Bihar currently playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has found himself at the heart of social media speculation over claims that he failed his Class 10 exams — claims his school and family have firmly denied.
Suryavanshi, who recently made headlines for scoring the fastest century in IPL history—reaching the milestone in just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans—has been subjected to online chatter alleging he failed his secondary school examinations. However, the principal of his school, Dr Mukteshwar Sinha Modesty School in Tajpur, Samastipur, clarified that the young cricketer did not sit for the exam at all this year.
“Vaibhav advanced to Class 10 after clearing Class 9 in 2024-25, but he couldn’t appear for the 10th exam this year due to his cricketing commitments,” said principal Adarsh Kumar. “He will sit for the exams next year. Claims that he failed are completely baseless.”
The 14-year-old’s meteoric rise has also reignited an earlier controversy over his age, following the circulation of an old interview in which he stated he would turn 14 in September 2023. Critics online have seized upon the video to question the legitimacy of his age, suggesting he may be older than officially stated.
Responding to these allegations, Vaibhav’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, dismissed the rumours, reiterating that his son has already undergone the BCCI’s mandatory bone age tests and even represented India at the Under-19 level.
“When Vaibhav was eight and a half, he underwent the BCCI bone test. We’ve never shied away from any age-related scrutiny and are ready to comply with any fresh tests,” he said.
School principal Adarsh Kumar confirmed that Vaibhav, who was born on March 17, 2011, is currently 14 years and 2 months old. “He has been our student since early childhood, except for two years when he studied at DAV Public School before rejoining us. He is enrolled in Class 10.”
Despite his off-field controversies, Vaibhav’s record-breaking innings and rapid rise through the cricketing ranks have made him a youth icon in Bihar and beyond.
