Patna: Bihar’s cricketers produced a series of standout performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, with teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi dominating the season and collecting several of the tournament’s top individual honours.
Representing the Rajasthan Royals, the 15-year-old finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer, amassing 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.31. His aggressive batting throughout the season made him one of the most talked-about players in the competition.
Suryavanshi Claims Multiple Awards
At the post-final awards ceremony, Suryavanshi secured the Orange Cap along with the Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season and Super Sixes of the Season awards.
Reflecting on his campaign, Suryavanshi said he had learned that every match presents different challenges and requires a different approach. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining fitness to ensure a long and injury-free career.
The young batter credited the Rajasthan Royals’ support staff and senior players for helping him adapt and succeed during his breakthrough season.
“I’m Not Drinking Milk These Days”: Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Speaking to former India captain Ravi Shastri after receiving the Most Valuable Player award, Vaibhav Suryavanshi displayed the same confidence off the field that he showed throughout the IPL season.
Reflecting on the honour, the young batter said, “It feels great, though I do feel a little bit of pressure regarding giving an interview.”
In a light-hearted moment during the interaction, Vaibhav joked, “Sir, I haven’t been drinking milk these days,” drawing smiles from those present.
Asked about the lessons he learned during IPL 2026, Suryavanshi said every match presents different circumstances and cannot be approached in exactly the same manner. He noted that adapting to conditions and situations was one of the most important takeaways from his breakthrough season.
Message for Bihar Fans
During a post-season interaction, Suryavanshi was asked to share a message for cricket fans in Bihar. Responding in a light-hearted manner, he said, “See you soon in Bihar.”
He also revealed his ambition to play red-ball cricket at the highest level, noting that he has already played significant amounts of longer-format cricket and hopes to represent India in Test matches in the future.

Suryavanshi was among the notable attendees at the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where he watched the match seated alongside Jay Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council.
His appearance at the final came after concluding a season in which he topped the batting charts across 16 matches.
Mukesh Kumar Provides Experience and Consistency
Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar continued to be a dependable option for the Delhi Capitals during his fourth IPL season.
The franchise retained confidence in the Gopalganj-born pacer with an investment of Rs 8 crore. Across 10 matches, Mukesh claimed 17 wickets while maintaining a reputation for disciplined line-and-length bowling.
His best bowling figures of the season were 2 for 26. Although he faced challenges in controlling the run rate at times, he remained an important member of the Delhi bowling attack.
Saqib Hussain Impresses in Debut Season
Twenty-one-year-old fast bowler Saqib Hussain emerged as one of Bihar’s breakthrough performers in IPL 2026.
Playing his debut season for Sunrisers Hyderabad after being signed for Rs 30 lakh, the Gopalganj cricketer took 15 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 9.25.
His best performance came with figures of 4 for 24, while his wicket-taking consistency helped him become the first bowler in the tournament’s history to claim at least one wicket in 10 consecutive matches.
Saqib first grabbed attention by taking four wickets on debut against the Rajasthan Royals.
Anukul Roy Earns India A Selection
All-rounder Anukul Roy also enjoyed his most productive IPL season with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Samastipur-born player featured in 14 matches and claimed nine wickets, recording his best IPL campaign in terms of appearances and dismissals.
His most effective bowling performance was 2 for 31, while his economical spells and fielding contributions strengthened KKR’s balance throughout the season.
Anukul’s performances have also earned him selection in the India A squad for the tri-series scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in June 2026.
Bihar’s Growing Presence in Indian Cricket
The performances of Suryavanshi, Mukesh, Saqib and Anukul underline Bihar’s growing contribution to Indian cricket. While Suryavanshi emerged as the tournament’s biggest individual star, the consistent displays from Bihar’s bowlers and all-rounders reflected the state’s increasing representation at the highest level of domestic franchise cricket.
