Patna: The expansion of Valmikinagar Airport in Bihar’s Bagaha subdivision is progressing rapidly, with administrative authorities accelerating land acquisition and survey work for key infrastructure projects.
The proposed development includes an extension of the airport runway, construction of a new terminal building and development of an approach road. Officials say the project is aimed at strengthening regional air connectivity and supporting tourism and economic activity in the region.
AAI team reviews proposed project
A team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently inspected the airport site along with Bagaha-II Circle Officer Mohammad Wasim Akram. Officials reviewed the proposed runway expansion, terminal building location and access road alignment based on project maps and technical plans.
On Saturday, District Land Acquisition Officer Rakesh Kumar, Circle Officer Mohammad Wasim Akram and a team of revenue officials and surveyors carried out demarcation of the identified land required for the project.
Runway to be extended by around 800 metres
According to officials, the existing runway is proposed to be extended by approximately 800 metres.
The airport is expected to initially accommodate small aircraft operations. Authorities have also initiated the process of acquiring additional land to support future expansion and facilitate the operation of larger aircraft.
Officials said the long-term plan is to develop the airport with sufficient infrastructure to meet growing aviation demands in the region.
Tourism and trade expected to benefit
Residents and local stakeholders believe the upgraded airport could significantly boost tourism, trade and transportation in Valmikinagar and neighbouring areas.
Improved air connectivity is expected to benefit visitors travelling to the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, one of Bihar’s prominent wildlife destinations. Easier access for domestic and international tourists could contribute to increased economic activity and employment opportunities in the region.
Local representatives attend inspection
Several local representatives were present during the inspection, including Jitendra Kushwaha, representative of Local Airport Advisory Committee chairman and Member of Parliament Sunil Kumar.
JD(U) leaders Rakesh Singh, Dayashankar Singh, Mohammad Nizamuddin and Aurangzeb Ansari were also among those in attendance.
Officials informed stakeholders that construction work would commence once the land acquisition process is completed and all administrative approvals are in place.
Construction to begin after acquisition process
Authorities said technical and administrative procedures related to the airport expansion project are currently underway.
Following completion of land acquisition, work on runway expansion, terminal construction and supporting infrastructure will begin.
Once completed, the upgraded airport is expected to enhance Valmikinagar’s connectivity and strengthen its position on the regional aviation network.
