Bhagalpur: Navgachhia police have taken swift action after a video allegedly showing police personnel involved in extortion surfaced on social media. A Sub-Inspector has been suspended, while two Home Guard jawans have been taken off field duties pending further action.
The video, which went viral on November 28, reportedly captured three uniformed personnel embroiled in a dispute over an illegal monetary transaction. The clip was widely circulated, prompting immediate attention from senior officials.
SDPO Confirms Extortion Attempt
Navgachhia Superintendent of Police (SP) ordered a detailed inquiry, assigning the case to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). According to the investigation report, Sub-Inspector (SI) Warish Khan and Home Guard personnel Sandeep Kumar and Guddan Mandal were found engaged in an illegal transaction dispute while on daytime patrol duty in Bhawanipur police station limits on November 28.
The report concluded that the conduct of the three officials indicated involvement in arbitrary and unlawful extortion.
Disciplinary Action Initiated
Acting on the findings, the SP suspended SI Warish Khan with immediate effect. The two Home Guards have been attached to the police line, and disciplinary proceedings have been recommended to the District Magistrate against them.
Police officials said strict internal measures will continue to ensure accountability and maintain public trust, especially in cases where misconduct surfaces through public platforms like social media.
