Patna: Proceedings in the Bihar Assembly briefly took a lighter turn on Thursday when members of the ruling alliance and the opposition exchanged humorous remarks during a discussion on the Rural Development Department’s demand for grants.
The exchange took place while RJD MLA Sarvjeet Kumar was speaking on the state’s financial position. He argued that Bihar’s fiscal deficit was increasing and said the first supplementary budget should ideally remain within five per cent of the total budget. According to him, the supplementary allocation this time was close to 25 per cent.
Vijay Kumar Sinha Questions Tejashwi Yadav’s Absence
During the debate, Vijay Kumar Sinha interrupted Sarvjeet Kumar’s speech and asked, “Where is the Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav?”
Sarvjeet Kumar responded with a smile, asking in return, “Where is Nishant?”
Responding to the remark, Vijay Kumar Sinha said, “He is in the Council. We are concerned about the Leader of the Opposition. It should be clear whether he is healthy or not, and whether he is in the country or abroad.”
The comments prompted laughter from members on both the treasury and opposition benches, with the House witnessing a brief spell of friendly banter.
Debate Resumes After Speaker’s Intervention
Following the exchange, the Speaker intervened and proceedings returned to the scheduled discussion on the Rural Development Department’s demand for grants.
The brief moment of levity stood out amid an otherwise serious debate on the state’s finances and budgetary allocations.
