Patna: Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, a 2007 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar. The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an official notification on Friday confirming his nomination.
Gunjiyal will succeed HR Srinivas and is expected to take charge immediately. As per ECI directives, he must formally assume office and notify the commission within seven days. While serving as CEO, he will not hold any additional responsibility under the Bihar government.
The Bihar government had proposed the names of three IAS officers for the post, with the commission selecting Gunjiyal for the role. Currently serving as Secretary of the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department, he will be relieved of his present duties before taking over the electoral position.
Gunjiyal’s appointment sets the stage for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, which will now take place under his supervision.
