Patna: A wanted criminal, identified as Prahlad Kumar, was shot in the leg and arrested by police during an operation in Barh, Patna district, on Friday. The accused, reportedly involved in arms dealing, was taken to Barh Sub-Divisional Hospital before being referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) due to the severity of his injuries.
Barh police said the arrest followed a tip-off about Kumar’s location in a local village, prompting a coordinated search under ‘Operation Langda’. Police said Kumar opened fire when surrounded, leading to a retaliatory response that left him injured.
Prahlad Kumar is alleged to be connected to the murder of Dharmveer Paswan, who was shot dead on January 3 in Jalgovind village. “During the investigation, Kumar’s involvement was confirmed. One other accused, Dheeraj Kumar, had already been arrested,” said SDPO-1 Anand Kumar Singh.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and six live cartridges from Kumar. He has multiple prior cases registered against him for theft, robbery, and Arms Act violations across Barh and Athmalgola police station areas. Authorities said the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team had been informed to collect evidence.
Kumar, a resident of Dharmpur village under Athmalgola police jurisdiction, is expected to be interrogated once he recovers. Police said they hope to gather crucial information about local arms trafficking and related criminal activities. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
