According to the department, boulder apron and slope pitching works being carried out to protect Ganiyari village and NH-122B are in the final stage and are expected to be completed within a week.
Focus on Highly Vulnerable Locations
The department said several locations were categorised as highly vulnerable during the 2025 flood season after experiencing severe flooding and riverbank erosion.
These include Hazalpur village in Maker block of Saran district on the Gandak river, the Ismailpur-Bindtoli embankment in Naugachia of Bhagalpur district along the Ganga, Ganiyari village in Vaishali, Sabalpur Pachhiyari Tola in Saran, and Javainiya village in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district.
Officials said erosion-control work at Hazalpur has already been completed, while work at the remaining sites is scheduled to finish by the end of this month.

Statewide Monitoring
The Secretary recently inspected flood protection works at Javainiya village in Bhojpur district and the Ismailpur-Bindtoli embankment in Bhagalpur district. During the inspections, he directed officials to maintain regular monitoring and ensure timely execution of the projects.
The department said these inspections are being conducted to assess the quality of work and strengthen Bihar’s preparedness before the onset of the flood season.
Flood Protection Across Bihar
According to the Water Resources Department, anti-erosion and flood protection works have been undertaken at 381 vulnerable locations across the basins of the Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kamala Balan, Kosi, Mahananda and Ganga rivers ahead of the 2026 flood season.
The projects have been executed at a total cost of Rs 1,115.08 crore, the department said.
Bihar’s Flood Vulnerability
The department said 68.80 lakh hectares, or 73.06% of Bihar’s total geographical area of 94.16 lakh hectares, is prone to flooding. Of the state’s 38 districts, 29 are classified as flood-prone.
According to the department, Bihar’s flood risk is largely driven by rivers entering the state through international and interstate boundaries. It said annual pre-monsoon erosion-control and flood protection measures are aimed at safeguarding embankments, settlements and public infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
