Patna: Bihar is expected to witness widespread rainfall on July 19 as the monsoon remains active across the state, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts and issued orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms and lightning.
The department has warned that south-west, south-central and south-east Bihar are likely to experience intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Residents have been advised to remain alert as adverse weather conditions are expected to persist through Sunday.
Orange Alert for Four Districts
An orange alert has been issued for Begusarai, Nawada, Jamui and Gaya, where torrential rainfall is likely.
The IMD said these districts could experience heavy downpours along with thunderstorms and lightning, increasing the risk of localised flooding and disruption.
Patna and Neighbouring Districts Likely to Receive Heavy Rain
The Meteorological Department has also issued a special weather alert for Patna and surrounding districts.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast in Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Bhabua (Kaimur), Arwal, Aurangabad, Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura.
The department has also predicted thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h across these districts.
Yellow Alert Across Mithilanchal
Several districts in the Mithilanchal region are also expected to receive heavy rainfall under cloudy conditions.
A yellow alert has been issued for Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Madhubani, Sitamarhi and Sheohar.
According to the IMD, these districts are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and westerly winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
Heavy Rain Expected in Kosi and Seemanchal
The Kosi and Seemanchal regions are also expected to remain under the influence of active monsoon conditions.
A yellow alert has been issued for Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura and Saharsa.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across most parts of these districts. Strong winds of 30–40 km/h are also expected, which may lead to a temporary drop in daytime temperatures.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents in the affected districts to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid open areas during lightning activity, and follow official weather advisories as monsoon conditions continue across Bihar.
