Patna: Western winds have pushed winter conditions deeper into Bihar, with dense fog covering several districts and temperatures steadily dipping. Patna, Bettiah, Gopalganj and more than 10 other districts woke up under a thick fog blanket on Saturday morning, forcing commuters to drive with headlights on.
Aurangabad recorded the lowest temperature in the last 24 hours, at 11 degrees Celsius. Meteorological officials say Bihar will witness a more pronounced drop in temperature from the beginning of December, with colder nights ahead.
On Friday, dense fog was reported in eight districts including Patna, Bettiah, Gopalganj and Begusarai. Night temperatures continue to fall gradually, even as daytime conditions remain relatively normal.
Minimum Temperature Trends
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that:
• Maximum temperatures in most districts will stay between 26°C and 30°C
• Southeastern and northeastern regions may record minimum temperatures of 10°C to 12°C
• Other parts of Bihar are likely to see night temperatures between 12°C and 15°C
Residents in Gopalganj were seen warming themselves around bonfires in the early morning cold, while schoolchildren in Bettiah stepped out wrapped in woollens and shawls.
Western Disturbance to Intensify Chill from December 1
Meteorologists warn of a sharp decline in night temperatures in the first week of December due to the activation of a western disturbance. Morning and evening cold is expected to increase significantly, raising the possibility of cold wave-like conditions in some areas.
Districts Likely to See Steep Drop in Temperature
• West Champaran
• East Champaran
• Shivhar
• Sitamarhi
• Gopalganj
• Siwan
These regions are expected to feel the most significant drop as winter grips the state more firmly.
Patna Weather Outlook
The sky will remain clear in Patna today with slightly warm conditions during the day. However, temperatures are expected to drop by evening, with mild fog returning. The night temperature is likely to settle around 13–14 degrees Celsius.
As December approaches, Bihar gears up for harsher winter conditions — earlier than usual and more intense for northern and northwestern districts.
