Patna: Meta has introduced a new privacy feature for WhatsApp that allows users to chat with its AI assistant in a more secure way. The feature, called Incognito Chat, is aimed at people who want their conversations with Meta AI to stay private. The company says these chats will not be stored in the usual way and will disappear once the conversation is over. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, as the company continues to expand AI tools across its apps.
According to Meta, Incognito Chat works differently from standard AI chat systems. Normally, many AI services keep user conversations for some time, either to improve the system or to save chat history. Meta says this new feature avoids that. It uses a secure system where the chat is processed separately and is not saved on regular servers. Once the session ends, the messages are deleted automatically. This means users can ask questions or talk to the AI without leaving a long-term digital record.
The company said the feature uses a system called private processing, which works through protected spaces known as Trusted Execution Environments. These are encrypted areas that isolate the conversation from normal servers. Meta says this setup prevents anyone else from reading the messages, including the company itself. It also said the technology was checked by cybersecurity firms NCC Group and Trail of Bits, which reviewed the privacy protections before rollout.
The feature is currently being released in phases, so not every user will see it immediately. Meta said users on both Android and iPhone should update their WhatsApp app to the latest version to check availability. Access may vary depending on country and account type. Once available, users will find an option inside Meta AI to start a private conversation. With growing concerns about data privacy and AI, Meta appears to be focusing on giving users more control over what happens to their personal chats.
