Patna: A retired railway official was allegedly assaulted by a hospital employee following a dispute over the availability of medicines at the Central Super Specialty Hospital near Karbigahiya, close to Patna Junction, on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim, a retired Senior Section Engineer, had reportedly visited the railway hospital for treatment. According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when he approached the pharmacy counter to collect medicines prescribed by a doctor and was informed that the medicines were unavailable.
An argument soon broke out between the retired official and a pharmacy staff member, which allegedly escalated into physical violence. Witnesses claimed that the employee lost his temper and assaulted the elderly man inside the hospital premises. The retired engineer was allegedly dragged across the veranda during the altercation before other hospital staff and visitors intervened to stop the assault.
The incident caused panic and commotion inside the hospital, with several patients and attendants gathering at the spot.
Patients and their relatives alleged that medicine shortages and complaints regarding staff behaviour have been longstanding concerns at the hospital. They claimed that such issues have repeatedly inconvenienced visitors seeking treatment.
Although no formal written complaint had been filed by the victim till the filing of this report, officials from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) visited the hospital after receiving information about the incident. Sources said a report has been submitted to senior officials for further action.
