Bhagalpur / Patna : A woman in Bhagalpur died by suicide on the first anniversary of her marriage after her husband returned home late, police have said. The incident occurred in Chhint Raghopur village under Nathnagar police station. The deceased has been identified as Rupa Kumari, wife of local resident Mithun Mandal.
According to reports, Rupa had asked her husband to return home early in the evening. However, Mithun, who had gone to attend a religious event in Ajmeripur Bairia, arrived home around midnight. Unable to enter the house as the door was locked, he slept in an outhouse nearby.
On Wednesday morning, Rupa reportedly brought medicine for her husband before locking herself in a room. When Mithun attempted to enter the room later that morning, he found the door locked from the inside. Upon breaking it open, he discovered Rupa had died by hanging using a dupatta.
The family was in the process of performing funeral rites when police intervened and took the body for postmortem.
