Patna: Railway personnel and passengers helped deliver a baby girl on a platform at Patliputra Railway Station on Sunday morning, in an incident officials said underscored the importance of rapid response during emergencies.
The woman, identified as Khushboo Kumari from Khagaria district, went into labour shortly before boarding a train from platform No 2. According to railway officials, the station master was alerted at around 9:18am that a passenger was in distress near the foot-over bridge at the northern end of the platform.
Members of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), including an assistant sub-inspector and female personnel, reached the spot within minutes. With assistance from women passengers present on the platform, they facilitated the delivery in what officials described as a safe environment.
The woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl in what was reported to be a normal delivery. She had been travelling with family members to her native village for childbirth when she experienced sudden labour pains before boarding the train.
Following the delivery, both mother and child were taken to a railway hospital in Danapur, where doctors said they were in stable condition.
Railway authorities said the incident highlighted the prompt coordination between RPF, GRP and civilians in handling medical emergencies at busy transit points.
