Patna: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in 11 districts of Bihar today, predicting light to moderate showers in some areas. However, residents of Patna are unlikely to get relief from the humid heat, as temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees due to strong sunlight.
According to the Patna Meteorological Center, a change in weather is expected across Bihar after September 10. Between September 11 and 18, many districts may witness heavy rainfall, while light showers and cloudy skies could prevail in other parts of the state.
Meteorologists explained that moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are moving towards Bihar. Additionally, the monsoon trough line is currently passing over the state and is becoming more active, increasing the likelihood of heavy downpours in the coming days.
In the last 24 hours, no rainfall was recorded in any district. Patna’s maximum temperature hovered around 36 degrees Celsius, while residents in Munger and Begusarai also struggled with the scorching sun.
So far, Bihar has received 30 percent less rainfall than normal this monsoon season. Against the expected 812 mm of rain until September 5, the state has recorded only 564 mm, according to official data.
Meanwhile, the forecast of rain brings hope to farmers. Experts say that paddy crops suffered due to insufficient rainfall in August, but timely showers in September could significantly improve the yield and benefit cultivators.
