Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 35 districts of Bihar, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next few days. The alert will remain in effect until October 7, with varying rainfall patterns across the state.
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is expected in southern Bihar districts, while northern districts are likely to witness light showers. The monsoon is projected to withdraw from Bihar around October 17.
On Wednesday, 18 districts, including Patna, Bhagalpur, and Gaya, recorded heavy rainfall. Waterlogging was reported in parts of Supaul, Khagaria, and Nalanda. In Sheikhpura, lightning struck a tree during heavy downpour, sparking a fire.
Tragedy struck as lightning claimed three lives in the state. One death was reported from Buxar, while two people were killed in Nawada. Several others sustained injuries in separate lightning incidents.
Impact of Bay of Bengal System
Meteorologists attribute the current weather fluctuations to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal that intensified on October 1. The system is moving northwest and is expected to reach the southern Odisha–northern Andhra Pradesh coast by October 3. Its impact is likely to extend to Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern India, bringing increased humidity and intermittent rainfall for the next five to seven days.
In Nalanda, weather conditions changed abruptly on Wednesday afternoon, followed by heavy rain. The capital, Patna, is also forecast to experience cloudy skies on Thursday and Friday, with moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Wind speeds may range from 30–40 kmph, while temperatures are expected to hover between 25–26°C (minimum) and 33–34°C (maximum).

- October 2–3: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning likely across several districts.
- October 4–6: Heavy rainfall may lash southern and eastern Bihar, while northern parts will receive moderate showers.
- October 7: Rain activity will weaken, with light rainfall expected in some areas.
