Gayaji: A terrifying incident took place on Sunday at Paharpur railway station on the Koderma railway line, where a young man’s attempt to take a shortcut nearly cost him his life. Witnesses watched in shock as the man tried to crawl under a stationary freight train to reach the next platform. What seemed like a moment-saving shortcut turned into a horrifying near-death experience within seconds.
According to people present on the spot, the freight train was standing on the loop line of the station. Instead of using the foot-over bridge, the young man decided to cross underneath the train. Just as he reached the middle, the freight train suddenly began to move. The sight left everyone stunned as the man had no way to escape. In a split-second decision, he immediately lay flat on the tracks between the rails.
In a scene straight out of a nightmare, the entire freight train passed over him. People watched helplessly, fearing the worst. But when the train finally crossed, the young man slowly stood up, folded his hands in shock and relief, and thanked God. The crowd let out sighs of relief, though many were trembling after witnessing the horrifying moment. Someone recorded the incident on their phone, and the video has quickly gone viral on social media.
The railway staff later said that repeated announcements were being made on the microphone warning passengers that the freight train was about to move. Despite that, the young man ignored all safety rules and acted recklessly. Officials stated that crawling under trains is extremely dangerous and is also punishable under the Railway Act. The Railway Police are now trying to identify the youth.
The incident has once again highlighted how shortcuts on railway tracks can become life-threatening.
