Patna: A 16-year-old girl preparing for competitive examinations allegedly died by suicide in a hostel located on Krishnanagar Road No. 14 under Buddha Colony police station limits in Patna on Tuesday. The deceased, a resident of Fatuha, had been staying at the hostel to pursue her studies.
Classmates discovered locked room
According to police, the incident came to light on Tuesday afternoon when other students, who shared the room with the girl, returned from their coaching classes. They found the door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocking and calling out, there was no response.
The hostel operator was informed, who then alerted the Buddha Colony police. When the police arrived and opened the door, the girl was found hanging from the ceiling. The body has been sent for postmortem.
Police probe underway
Buddha Colony police station in-charge said, “Prima facie, this appears to be a case of suicide. However, we are investigating all possible angles. The exact cause of the girl’s death is yet to be confirmed.”
Police have begun questioning hostel authorities and fellow students to ascertain circumstances leading up to the incident.
