Patna: In a major step towards strengthening digital policing infrastructure, 342 newly upgraded police stations in Bihar — previously operating as outposts (OPs) — are being integrated with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS). The move is part of a broader push by the Bihar Police Headquarters to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in police investigations.
According to Additional Director General (Provisioning) Ajitabh Kumar, procurement has been approved for a range of IT and infrastructure equipment to operationalize CCTNS in these stations. This includes:
- 1,072 desktops
- 374 printers
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units
- Network switches and handheld devices
- 324 generator sets
“The integration of these police stations into the CCTNS will enable the digitization of all complaint-related investigations,” ADG Kumar stated. “Once live, the entire process — from FIR registration to charge sheet submission — will be carried out in a digital format.”
New Stations, Expanded Jurisdiction
These police stations, previously functioning as OPs, have now been upgraded to full-fledged police stations, and their jurisdictional boundaries have been expanded. In many cases, areas from neighboring large police stations have been reallocated to the new ones, ensuring more focused policing and quicker response times.
To support this expansion, deployment of police personnel is underway as per standard staffing norms, officials said. The state police headquarters is also working to equip these stations with adequate vehicles and other operational resources to meet the new workload.
Boost to Law Enforcement Efficiency
The integration with CCTNS is expected to bring uniformity and speed to data sharing across police units. It will also improve coordination between stations and higher authorities, aid in criminal data tracking, and streamline case monitoring.
The initiative aligns with the national vision of a digitally connected police force, which aims to modernize policing through real-time access to criminal records, case histories, and analytics.
The Bihar Police has already connected a majority of its older police stations with CCTNS. This latest expansion will bring the entire policing grid closer to seamless digital functionality, especially in rural and previously under-resourced areas.
