Yellow Alert Issued for Dense Fog in 12 Bihar Districts, Rain Likely by Month-End

Reflective Tape Campaign Launched to Reduce Road Accidents in Fog

Patna: A yellow alert has been issued in 12 districts of Bihar today, warning of dense fog. The affected districts include Jamui, Munger, Khagaria, Banka, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, and Supaul. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists predict a significant weather change as an active western disturbance is expected to impact the West Himalayas and adjoining plains on December 27. This system may bring light rain to several districts of Bihar, including Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, and Arwal, on December 28 and 29. Following the rain, a drop in temperature and an increase in cold conditions are likely.

Dense fog is expected to persist in the eastern part of the state over the next three days, while other regions will experience light morning fog. The Meteorological Department has stated that there is no significant change anticipated in night temperatures over the next 48 hours.

Forbesganj recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 29.2 degrees Celsius, while Samastipur registered the lowest temperature at 7.4 degrees Celsius. Sheikhpura saw the highest maximum temperature over the past 24 hours.

Meteorologist Ashish Kumar stated that colder conditions are expected to intensify in January as part of the natural winter cycle. “January and February are considered the coldest months. If there is rain during December or January, the fog usually clears, providing some relief through sunlight,” he explained.
